The Emperor’s New Clothes

In a faraway land, there was an Emperor who loved wearing fancy clothes more than anything else. He spent all his time and money on looking grand.

One day, two tricky men came to town. They told the Emperor they could make the most wonderful clothes ever. These clothes were special because they were invisible to anyone who was silly or not good at their job.

The Emperor was very excited and gave the men lots of gold to make him these special clothes. The tricky men pretended to work, but they didn't make anything at all.

When they said the clothes were ready, the Emperor couldn't see them, but he didn't want to seem silly. So, he pretended to put on the clothes and marched in a big parade through the town.

Everyone in town had heard about the magic clothes and didn't want to seem silly either. So, they all said, "Wow! The Emperor's new clothes are beautiful!" even though they couldn't see them.

But a little child, who didn't worry about being silly, shouted, "But he isn't wearing anything at all!"

Soon, everyone whispered what the child had said, until they all shouted, "He isn't wearing anything at all!"

The Emperor knew the people were right but thought, "I must finish the parade." And he walked more proudly than ever, while his helpers held onto the clothes that weren't there.
