The Tale of Peter Rabbit

Once upon a time, there were four little rabbits named Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter. They lived with their mother in a sandbank, under the root of a big fir tree.

One day, Mother Rabbit said, "You may go into the fields or down the lane, but don't go into Mr. McGregor's garden. Your father had an accident there and was put into a pie by Mrs. McGregor."

Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail were good little bunnies. They went down the lane to pick blackberries. But Peter Rabbit was naughty. He ran straight to Mr. McGregor's garden and squeezed under the gate.

First, he ate some lettuces, then some French beans, and then he ate some radishes. But then, feeling rather sick, he looked for some parsley.

Suddenly, Mr. McGregor saw Peter! He shouted, "Stop thief!" and started chasing Peter all around the garden.

Peter was very scared. He ran here and there, trying to find a way out. He lost his shoes and his jacket, but he couldn't find the gate.

At last, Peter saw the gate! But Mr. McGregor was right behind him. With all his might, Peter squeezed under the gate and ran back home.

Peter was so tired and sick. His mother put him to bed with a cup of tea, while Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail had bread, milk, and blackberries for supper.

Peter Rabbit never went back to Mr. McGregor's garden again.
