Once upon a time, there was a gentle bull named Ferdinand. Unlike the other bulls who liked to run and jump and butt their heads together, Ferdinand loved to sit quietly and smell the flowers. He was happiest under his favorite cork tree, just smelling the flowers all day long.

One day, five men came to choose the biggest, fastest, roughest bull for the bullfights in Madrid. All the other bulls ran around, jumping and butting their heads to show they were strong. But Ferdinand didn't care; he just wanted to sit and smell the flowers.
Suddenly, Ferdinand sat on a bumblebee! It stung him, and Ferdinand jumped up with a loud "Ouch!" He ran around wildly, not because he was angry or fierce, but because the bee sting hurt!
The men saw Ferdinand and thought he was the fiercest of all. They chose him for the bullfights in Madrid. But when the big day came, Ferdinand didn't want to fight. He just wanted to smell the flowers in the ladies' hair.
Everyone was surprised! They expected Ferdinand to be fierce, but he was calm and peaceful. So, they took Ferdinand back to his meadow, where he was happiest.
Ferdinand went back to sitting under his cork tree, smelling the flowers, just as peaceful and happy as ever.
